Seeking Freedom

[Source: pixabay. (n.d.). Vector Image [Illustration]. Canva. https://canva.com]

I

I am nothing but a bird

Stuck in a shabby cage

Freedom, not yet earned

Because I am still not of age

But, one day, was left free

Free from the shabby cage

From my shackles, I flee

Because I am already of age

To get out of this cage

II

Little did I know

How outside was daunting

Unfamiliarity seems to show

That I began wanting

Wanting the former solace

That I once always felt

Back in my comfort place

No worries, I had dealt

When I was still in that cage

III

Now, I have returned

Back to the shabby cage

Though I have learned

That this shabby cage

Gave me protection

From the danger of outdoors

Realized all the affection

Inside these cage’s doors

Was all I had needed
