What would you do if the things that you were eagerly looking forward to suddenly disappeared in a single moment? The COVID-19 pandemic has been widespread all over the world. Some countries have already recovered, while some are still struggling with the virus’ active cases in their respective countries, like the Philippines. Due to the pandemic, many people have lost their jobs. Some weren’t able to do opportunities like contests and events. I, myself, felt upset that all my plans were suddenly canceled. I never expected that all of those dreams would be ruined by the dreaded virus called COVID-19. Back in February 2020, COVID-19 wasn’t much of a problem yet in the Philippines. However, in countries like Japan, the virus became more widespread, leading the government to end all of the classes abruptly. I was among the students who experienced the effect of that abrupt announcement. I was an exchange student who was really looking forward to spending the whole month of March with my international friends, but all of our plans were destroyed after the announcement that there would be no more classes. My exchange program was also cut one month short. If I only knew that this would have happened, then I would’ve spent the most out of my exchange program back in February, but sadly, I can’t travel back in time. I know I’m not the only one who has felt disappointment, sadness, and everything else because of the pandemic. A lot of us are still facing those emotions. It is uncertain when we will have our pre-COVID life back. We are unsure of what the future may bring upon us. However, one thing’s for certain: Just as Dr. Seuss said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” Even though we are staying in our homes, let’s use this time to bond and fix our relationships with our loved ones. This pandemic has taught me how short life is. That’s why we must make the most out of every moment before it becomes just a memory.
